Its a little overdue, but a good idea.

I also think you should be able to control henchmen like the heroes (i.e. click a number by their name and control their skill bar)

i've yet to see a semi-decent idea on GwGuru posted for quite some time and this isn't too shabby. would be interesting.
BUT
a suggestion, instead of having to hover over their name or w/e, to see their skillbar / energy, you would have to press "p" for party search and then goto some new panel named "henchman info" or whatever witty name you can think of (saves having to find them on the map and such. i, personally, add heroes via "party search"). ^^

This would be nice especially for some Faction areas where you get the choice of 2 or 3 necro or mesmer henchies.

you should be able to see everything like heros (same way with button next to name) but not be able to control it. This way you can see what they are casting.

When you 'talk' to a henchman they always popup a dialogue.
Why not add a dialog option to that popup window?
* What can you do?
Click in the option, and ding, they popup a panel with a description or wisper you their skill bar with a template.

We know our heroes' setups, and pretty much everyone asks you to ping your own setups, the henchies have to come clean with us too. I also want to prove that rumor that Alesia has 4 in Healing Prayers. :P
Another thing I'm for is that, if you call your health/energy or DP/morale, so do your henchmen, like this.
Joe Schmoe: My health is 476 of 491.
Devona: My health is # of #.
Joe Schmoe: I have 15% Death Penalty!
Alesia: I have 60% Death Penalty!
And so on, though it might flood the chat. Maybe make the henchmen only report it every X seconds or so to avoid that.

I say no.
The resources that would be put into this could be better used elsewhere.
Most henchies already have a discription of their build like Cynn[fire henchman] and Herta[earth henchman].
That gives you a rough idea of what they do. And it was meant to be that way.
Theres always the wiki for details.

While my normal response would be F10, that can often be pretty non user-friendly

A simple whisper with a template won't harmanyone.
And GW should encourage build synergy by allowing players to see the actual build.

Not sure how many times I have requested or rezed a thread requesting seeing energy of party members. For some reason over half the community doesn't want that, but now you want to see everything that henchmen are doing. Why not set it up so you can see what I am doing on my character next.
/signed for the whisper template concept
/unsigned for this
